The History
How Clear Lake came to be.
The story behind this community, in plain language, as the Sharcom Realty Group team tells it to buyers who are just starting their search. Dates and figures are approximate and drawn from public histories; verify specifics before you rely on them.
Clear Lake was a small ranching and farming community until September 1961, when NASA announced that the new Manned Spacecraft Center, now the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, would be built on the 1,620-acre Clear Lake site south of Houston.
The space race triggered explosive growth in housing, commerce and engineering jobs. Today Clear Lake is Houston's Space City district, with the NASA campus, the waterfront communities of Clear Lake Shores and Nassau Bay, and the Kemah Boardwalk next door.
Demographics
Who calls Clear Lake home.
A general portrait of the people and households in the area. Population figures are from the 2020 U.S. Census and are approximate; the community mix changes as new areas build out.
Clear Lake sits inside the City of Houston's Clear Lake Super Neighborhood cluster, so its population is folded into Houston's totals; the surrounding area across Clear Creek ISD serves tens of thousands of residents.
The population is a mix of NASA and aerospace professionals, longtime Gulf Coast families and commuters using the Sam Houston Tollway, with strong homeownership in the established waterfront and forested neighborhoods.
