Local Character
Cypress is a community of master-planned neighborhoods, large parks and family-friendly amenities, with a distinctly suburban, outdoors-oriented feel and none of the density of the Inner Loop.
Typical Home Styles
Brick-and-stone family homes from the 1990s through today make up most of the inventory, with lakefront, golf and estate sections such as Towne Lake and Bridgeland reaching the luxury tier.
Schools
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (Cy-Fair) serves the great majority of the area and is one of the largest districts in Texas, so verify the assigned campus for any specific address.
Commute Notes
US-290, the Grand Parkway and SH-249 connect Cypress to Downtown Houston, the Energy Corridor and the northwest suburbs, roughly 35 to 50 minutes in rush traffic.
The History
How Cypress came to be.
The story behind this city, in plain language, as the Sharcom Realty Group team tells it to buyers who are just starting their search. Dates and figures are approximate and drawn from public histories; verify specifics before you rely on them.
Cypress grew along Cypress Creek in northwest Harris County, settled by German immigrants in the 1840s and named for the cypress trees along the creek. It remains an unincorporated community today, written about by the Handbook of Texas as part of the Cypress-Fairbanks area.
Its modern identity was built by the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District and the master-planned communities that followed: from the 1970s onward, developments like Bridgeland, Towne Lake and the Cy-Fair neighborhoods turned Cypress into one of the largest family markets in Greater Houston.
Demographics
Who calls Cypress home.
A general portrait of the people and households in the area. Population figures are from the 2020 U.S. Census and are approximate; the community mix changes as new areas build out.
Cypress is not an incorporated city, so the U.S. Census counts it within the broader Cypress-Fairbanks area, which has been estimated at roughly 200,000 residents in recent reporting. Cy-Fair ISD serves most of the community.
The population is heavily family-oriented with high homeownership, drawn by large schools, newer housing and commute access to the Energy Corridor, Uptown and Downtown via US-290 and the Grand Parkway.
