The History

How Spring Branch came to be.

The story behind this neighborhood, in plain language, as the Sharcom Realty Group team tells it to buyers who are just starting their search. Dates and figures are approximate and drawn from public histories; verify specifics before you rely on them.

Spring Branch predates the City of Houston: German immigrant Karl Kolbe settled along Spring Branch Creek in 1830, and by the late 1840s the area was a farming community of German dairy and sawmill families. The community built St. Peter's United Church in 1848 and founded the school society that became Spring Branch ISD.

Houston annexed the area in the mid-1900s, and most housing was built between the 1940s and 1970s. Today Spring Branch is one of Houston's most international districts, home to a vibrant Korean and Latino business corridor and a strong community identity.
